HORSES HELPING PEOPLE
Healing Horses Kauai's (HHK) mission is to enrich the lives of people of all abilities through Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT), improving their physical, cognitive, social and/or emotional well-being.
It costs $1500+ a month to feed and farrier our 10 horses...Normally we raise these funds with our annual Gala and Silent Auction; but alas, we could not host one in 2020 or 2021. So please consider helping support our horses, so our horses can achieve their important mission to help humans.

While we try to keep our riding sessions as low cost as possible, there are still families that cannot afford to pay for riding sessions. Providing a scholarship for riders allows them to experience the benefits of therapeutic riding. Scholarships can be purchased at the barn or on the website.

To protect our immunocompromised clientele, HHK requests that all visitors and returning residents delay scheduling horsemanship lessons until after they have been on island 10 days OR they receive a negative result on the optional second COVID test 72 hours after arrival.
The following restrictions must be observed:
6 feet of social distancing whenever possible. Please advise your child that hugging and other close contact activities are to be avoided.
All volunteers and participants 5 years of age and up are REQUIRED to wear a mask covering both their mouth and nose when within 6 feet of another person. As per rule #6 masks can only be removed when engaging in a permissible outside exercise while practicing social distancing of at least 6 feet; for eating and drinking; or when a medical condition prohibits the use or causes a greater health or safety risk (verified licensed medical practitioner note required). That means students must all have a mask on their person and know how and when to apply it. Students who are non-compliant to social distancing OR masking will be asked to leave.

Why are these important: to increase equine health and happiness while decreasing feed expenses, thus HHK will be able to obtain additional equines, which will permit an increase of ridership (up to 20%); to improve the comfort and safety of our medically sensitive clients (clients with MS, SCI, TBI, post-stroke, heart disease, and those taking certain medications (anxiety and depression meds) all have difficulty with thermoregulation); and to promote volunteer and instructor retention due to more comfortable working conditions for equines and staff. Off-grid office will also permit onsite record keeping and lesson planning, hence increasing job satisfaction, improved instructor retention, and increased quality and continuity of care for our clients.
